THE SUB is the innovative home tap from HEINEKEN® and Krups, designed by the highly acclaimed industrial designer Marc Newson. Select your favourite beers from around the globe, place the TORP in THE SUB, and enjoy delicious, freshly tapped draught beer.
You can change your country and buy THE SUB. If THE SUB is not available where you live, pre-register and we will make sure you are the first to know once THE SUB launches in your country.
THE SUB is 45.5cm (excluding drip tray) x 23.5cm x 33.5cm.
THE SUB weighs 6.8 kg.
THE SUB plugs into the wall mains with a 90cm power cable. It’s extremely energy-efficient with a rating of A+.
When there is a TORP in THE SUB, it should stay plugged in. We recommended unplugging THE SUB when it doesn’t have a TORP installed.
THE SUB has an energy label of "A+". This means this is one of the most efficient appliances within the home draught system category.
THE SUB uses an average of 10 Watts in a “steady state.” This means the home temperature is 20-22°C, the TORP is pre-chilled to 2°C, and THE SUB is not pouring. It is comparable to an unopened refrigerator. 10 Watts is the same as a usage of 0,010 kWh per hour.
Pull off the top of the TORP sleeve along the dotted line. Then take off the cap and take the tube out. Push the tube in the opening of the TORP until you hear a "click" sound. Slide the TORP into the cooling chamber of THE SUB. Make sure you push the TORP completely to the end of appliance. Then open the tap cover and guide the tube into place. Snap the beer valve in its position in the tap head. Close the tap cover, close and lock THE SUB door and leave to chill.
Check out our How it Works guide for a visual and more information.
Once your beer is chilled to the right temperature, the light on the front of THE SUB will turn green.
Tapping a beer before the TORP is completely chilled will produce a lot of foam. We recommend waiting until the green light is on.
To pre-cool your TORP, set the fridge at the lowest temperature and put the TORP on the lowest shelf (this is the coldest area) for 6 to 10 hours, or until the cold indicator on the TORP turns dark blue.
THE SUB chills to 2°C and can't be set to any other temperature.
This is perfectly normal. THE SUB will adjust temperature to keep your beer perfectly chilled, so you may hear its cooling fan working!
This is perfectly normal. THE SUB is fitted with a pump to keep the TORP under pressure. During use, the pump will start up automatically, generating a sound that will stop after a few seconds.
Unplug THE SUB before cleaning the inside and outside with a soft cloth. Use a damp cloth to clean the cover and a dry cloth to clean the cooling chamber. THE SUB should never be immersed in water. Harsh cleaning agents may damage THE SUB.
Clean the drip tray with warm, soapy water after every use.
We recommend cleaning the tap every time you load a new TORP to avoid contamination and mixing different beers.
A TORP holds two litres of beer, or about eight 0.25cl glasses.
The complete range of TORPS is available in the BEERS section of our website.
Please note TORPS are not sold in any retailers and can only be purchased on our website.
The full range of available beers is listed in the BEERS section of our website. The selection of beers we offer may vary, and we’ll be introducing new beer brands over time.
TORPS are 11cm in diameter and 26.9cm high.
A TORP weighs 2.1 kg.
When you order a TORP from our website, we guarantee at least 2 months of remaining shelf life. On the side of the TORP, the best-by date is displayed.
Store your unopened TORP in a cool, dry location.
Once the TORP has been opened, the beer is guaranteed to stay fresh for 15 days if you leave the TORP in a running SUB during that time.
Before use, keep TORPS in a cool, dark place. If there's room in your fridge, keep a spare TORP chilled and ready to use. Set the fridge at the lowest temperature and put the TORP on the lowest shelf - this is the fridge's coldest area.
DO NOT PLACE THE TORP IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT, STORE THE TORP BELOW 30 DEGREES, OR FREEZE THE TORP.
No. The TORP should not go below zero degrees as this may damage the packaging and cause beer leakage. You will no longer be able to use the TORP once frozen.
Once in THE SUB, cooling down a TORP takes 10 to 16 hours (depending on starting temperature of the TORP). When your beer is chilled to the right temperature, the light on the front of THE SUB will turn green.
To speed up the process, set your fridge at the lowest temperature and store the TORP on the lowest shelf (this is the coldest area) for 6 to 10 hours, or until the cold indicator on the TORP turns dark blue.
Once a TORP has been opened, you need to keep it in THE SUB and keep THE SUB plugged in. This will keep the beer at the right pressure and freshness. You can take the TORP out before it is empty, but once removed it should not be consumed.
No, the TORP is specifically designed to be used with THE SUB. The beer inside the TORP needs to be kept under controlled pressure, otherwise the beer will not be the quality you would expect. Piercing the TORP is not recommended as the sudden change in pressure could cause it to rupture.
No, TORPS are designed specifically for THE SUB.
The TORPS are sturdy, but they could leak if they freeze or they’re punctured. If you have a TORP that was leaking when you received it, please contact your local Customer Service.
The TORP is made of PET plastic, and the recommendation is to dispose of the TORP in an appropriate plastic waste stream. Actual realisation depends on local collection systems and policies in place.

The Blade user manual is delivered with the appliance. You can also download it in the HOW IT WORKS section.
Download and print the Blade marker here, and use the augmented reality kit for Android or for iOS
Your appliance is equipped with a temperature indicator, when the light turns into green, it means the beer is at optimum temperature and ready to be served.
Yes. If you've got a keg in your appliance it needs to be kept switched on to maintain the correct pressure.
Cooling off the beer to a temperature of 2 °C inside your appliance takes around 10 hours if the keg and the appliance are at room temperature (22 °C). This time may be reduced by several hours if the keg has been pre-chilled in the refrigerator. We recommend that you pre-chill your keg for at least 6 hours in the fridge before installing it in your machine.
Pouring before the keg is fully chilled will produce a lot of foam. We don't recommend it.
YES, 4 and 5-litre kegs that have already been tapped should be stored in your refrigerator for up to 30 days after tapping. Tapped 2-litre kegs should not be stored in the refrigerator.
Unplug your product before cleaning and dry both the exterior and interior with a soft cloth or sponge.
Clean the recovery tank after every use with hot, soapy water.
Do not immerse the product in water.
The use of harsh detergents can damage your system.
It is normal to hear a noise after closing the door or when pulling a drink. This noise corresponds to the activation of a pump for pressurising the keg. The pump turns on upon insertion of a keg, each time it is used and once every half hour to maintain the pressurised beer.
It could be due to several causes:
• It is the first glass tapped: the tube that transport the beer to the spout is filled with gas and not yet with beer.
• The keg is not at the right temperature.
• The server doesn't draw the beer correctly: The tap handle should be opened quickly and completely when drawing beer. Hold the glass under the spout, at 45 degrees. Rinse the glass with water before drawing a beer.
Possible reasons are:
• The beer tube is not fully inserted in the keg
• The beer tube is not well placed inside the tap head of the appliance
• The beer tube is pinched
• The keg is empty
Yes, the first glass from the keg contains primarily foam that may be discarded. However, if the amount of foam in the subsequent glasses is the same, it is possible the keg is not cold enough.
The machine is operating and the keg is in the process of cooling.
A little condensation is normal; this is connected with the difference in temperature.
Dry the refrigeration chamber thoroughly when exchanging kegs.
If you have used all 10 tubes that were provided with your machine, you may order new tubes from the website.
Remember to keep extra tubes on hand so you may continue using your machine between the moment your order is received and the moment your new tubes are delivered.
You may store a “Compatible BeerTender” keg (not tapped) at room temperature until the end of the month indicated in the expiration date on the side of the keg. Once tapped, the keg may be stored for 30 days at a temperature between 5 and 8 degrees.
No, only the model B95 offers three temperature settings of 2, 4 or 6°C
My product makes noise while cooling a keg; is that normal?
This is perfectly normal.
The product will adjust the temperature to keep your beer perfectly chilled.
During this process it will make noise.
After following the instructions in the user manual for starting the appliance, make sure that your electrical socket is working by plugging another appliance. If it still does not work, do not try to dismantle or repair the appliance yourself and take it to an approved repair centre.
Do not use your appliance. To avoid any danger, have it replaced by an approved repair centre.
The draught beer machine heats the beer instead of cooling it.
Your appliance has an anomaly. Unplug the draught beer machine and take it to an approved service centre.
You can find a full set of beer brands available at the draughtkeg website.
Yes, they're made of PET (2 & 4 litres) or of steel (5 litres) which is widely recycled in most places. Check with your local recycling guidelines to be sure.
The number of servings depends on the size of the keg and the size of the glass, which varies from country to country. For a 25cl glass, you could get 4 servings with one litre of beer.
Only 5-litre kegs can be used without a machine.
Two litre kegs can be kept inside the appliance for 15 days after opening, 4 and 5 litre kegs can be kept for 1 month.
Keep your keg in a cool dark place. If there's room in your fridge, keep a spare keg chilled and ready to use.
No. Beer is not a product that fares well when exposed to below 0 degrees and its quality would also deteriorate. You would also risk the keg leaking.
Only the kegs on the websites the-sub.com (for 2-litre kegs)
No
There are two ways:
• In the beer dispenser (if the keg and dispenser are at room temperature of 20 °C, it will take approximately 15 hours to chill a keg of 4 or 5 litres to 4 °C, and around 10 hours to chill a keg of 2 litres to 2°C)
• or in the refrigerator (between 8 and 12 hours, depending on the cooling capacity of the refrigerator and keg size).
Yes, if a 220-240V socket is available.
Yes, over reasonable distances and as long as the transport does not incur high variations in altitude and therefore too much pressure. Nevertheless, once at your destination, it is better to let it rest a few minutes before use. As the beer may have been shaken about, you must let the foam settle back down.
Please note, the keg is not transportable by plane, because of the significant variation in altitude and therefore pressure.
The ideal storage temperature is between 5 and 8 degrees. Like all other beer kegs, do not allow the kegs to be exposed to temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.
Empty kegs can be thrown away with other household rubbish. However, be sure to respect the sorting criteria specific to your local authority.
Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point.
If you believe that one part is missing, please call Consumer Services Center and we will help you find a suitable solution.
The Heineken Draughtkeg is a five-litre keg full of premium Heineken beer. It has an integrated carbon dioxide cartridge that allows you to enjoy fresh, draught beer whenever and wherever you choose. This means you can now enjoy genuine draught beer at home, at parties, barbecues, birthdays, at the beach, on boat trips – anywhere you like.
The DraughtKeg is an easy-to-carry, instant draught beer system that’s also really easy to use, and the empty keg can be easily disposed of after use.
An integrated carbon dioxide cartridge is an internal pressure system, which makes it possible to produce real draught beer because the beer is drawn from the keg "under pressure".
The pressure system – which includes a small tube with active carbon dioxide – keeps the beer under constant pressure. This relatively small cylinder contains more than enough carbon dioxide to completely empty the keg. It’s also equipped with a control valve that maintains the pressure in the DraughtKeg at approximately 1.0 bar.
With consistently good pressure, the beer can be drawn via the beer line attached inside the DraughtKeg. All you have to do is tap and pour cold, fresh, quality Heineken to share with your friends.
The DraughtKeg is extremely easy to use. Look for the symbols on the keg that explain how it works, and you’re just a few easy steps away from being able to pour and enjoy your own draught beer.
For more detailed instructions, check the booklet in the blisterpack on top of your DraughtKeg.
You can store your DraughtKeg for up to nine months unopened. Even after you’ve tapped it for the first time, the Heineken beer inside your DraughtKeg will stay fresh for up to 30 days.
This really depends on you and the size of the glasses you’re using. On average, a DraughtKeg will give you 20 draught beers when you’re using 25 centilitre glasses.
In principle, yes. We do, however, recommend that you check the DraughtKeg as luggage rather than taking it on board as carry-on luggage.
A maximum of 35 degrees Celsius. If it is exposed to temperatures higher than 35°C, the keg will first begin to swell. If it becomes even warmer, the keg rim around the lid will become loose, which will cause beer or foam to leak from the DraughtKeg. However, the keg cannot explode and does not pose any serious hazards.
Yes, the packaging is 100% recyclable. It is also extremely efficient considering that one single keg holds five litres of beer. For easy disposal, the empty packaging with the tap pipe can also be thrown out with the household garbage.
Like all Heineken packaging, the DraughtKeg and its parts meet the most stringent food safety requirements.
This is usually because your DraughtKeg is not cold enough. It must be placed in the refrigerator for at least 10 hours to ensure the temperature of the beer in the keg is around 5°C.
Even though the keg usually feels cold to the touch when it’s refrigerated, this is because the metal exterior becomes cold much more quickly – it doesn't always mean that the beer is actually cold enough.
For the perfect pour, make sure you open the tap pipe quickly and completely when drawing beer.
The first glass can contain more foam because the line in the keg that carries the beer to the top of the keg is filled with carbon dioxide before you tap it. If the beer is cold enough, your second glass should be perfect.
If your keg was shaken too much when it was being juggled into position, or while it was on its way to you, let it settle for a while in the fridge to keep it cold.
We apologise for this, but it does happen occasionally. The best thing to do is remove the tap pipe from the keg and put it on again to draw a new beer.
